Department Information

Parksville Fire Rescue has proudly served our community since 1942 by providing the best possible services to the Parksville Fire Protection Area. Parksville Fire Rescue is a composite department with predominantly on-call firefighters and a small complement of career staff who respond to emergencies 24/7, 365 days a year. Our members are trained to the highest standards.

The Parksville Fire Protection Area encompasses the City of Parksville and contract areas within the Regional District of Nanaimo which include San Pareil, Morningstar, Columbia Beach, French Creek, and the Fourneau Road, Wildgreen and Martindale Road areas. The population of the fire protection area is about 19,000 people, increasing substantially in the summer months.

Our department provides a wide range of emergency and non-emergency services to the Parksville Fire Protection Area. Services to the community include fire suppression, motor vehicle incidents, response to medical emergencies, motor vehicle incidents, hazardous materials incidents, utility emergencies, carbon monoxide alarms and we perform rescue services, along with other public services.

The goal of the Parksville Fire Rescue’s fire prevention office is to maintain a minimum level of fire and life safety for the general public in public buildings throughout the community, through education and enforcement of applicable codes and standards. Investigations are conducted to better understand the cause of a fire and determine how similar situations can be prevented.

With the growth and development in our region, recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters continues to be a challenge for Parksville Fire Rescue. If you think you have what it takes to be a volunteer firefighter, please contact us today.
