Parksville Fire Annual Open House - October 4

Join Parksville Fire Rescue (PFR) members for their annual open house as part of Fire Prevention Week (October 4-10, 2026).
    Sunday, October 4
    10 am to 2 pm
Parksville Firehall (160 Jensen Ave W)
This event provides an excellent opportunity for residents to learn about a variety of fire and life safety topics, including home fire sprinklers, smoke alarms, home escape planning, and FireSmart principles and practices that can help reduce wildfire risk and improve a property's ability to withstand a wildfire. There will also be educational displays and interactive activities where you will learn how to use a fire extinguisher, how to perform CPR, try hose and target practice, and a kids’ bunker gear challenge.

Fire Prevention Week runs from October 4 – 10 and is recognized by the National Fire Protection Association. This year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower” to help educate about using and charging batteries and battery-powered devices safely. Key safety tips for residents from Parksville Fire:

  • Charge Smart, Stay Safe – only use the charger and battery designed for your device. Charge devices on a hard, flat surface away from beds, couches, clothing, and other combustible materials.
  • Watch for Warning Signs – stop using and charging batteries or devices if they become unusually hot, swell, leak, smell strange, or make unusual noises. Move them to a safe location if possible and contact the manufacturer for guidance.
  • Power Up Safely – never leave devices charging unattended or overnight. Follow the manufacturer's charging instructions and unplug devices once they are fully charged.
